YouTube challenges budding scientists

Google launches, Tuesday, Oct. 11, YouTube Space Lab, a competition for youth around the world inviting them to conceive, shoot and upload a scientific experiment can be performed in space. The two experiments selected by a panel of experts, will then be conducted aboard the International Space Station (ISS), and broadcast live on YouTube.
Adolescents, 14-18 years, must before December 7 post their video on YouTube, with a duration of two minutes. In any case, it must contain four essential elements: the scientific question to be addressed, the hypothesis to make a response, the method used and the expected experience. Applicants may submit up to three experiences in one of two proposed scientific disciplines, biology and physics.
A jury composed of scientists (including Professor Stephen Hawking), astronauts and teachers will judge the entries with the help of the YouTube community.
The six finalists will meet in Washington in March 2012 to participate in a parabolic flight (which simulates weightlessness). In the end, two winners will receive a choice of a trip to Tokyo to attend the launch of a rocket shipping experience to the ISS or an astronaut training in Star City, the training center Russian cosmonauts.
This training includes courses and simulations, and a guided tour of Moscow and personalized souvenirs, including a space suit. The project was developed in partnership with Lenovo and the largest space agencies (NASA, ESA or the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency).
