Sony Ericsson bought by Sony for 1.05 billion euros


The rumor grew, and Sony has just confirmed the purchase of shares of Ericsson joint venture Sony Ericsson, for a total of 1.05 billion euros, a transaction expected to close in January 2012. The goal, to give a new momentum in the market Sony Ericsson mobile phone.
Sony has therefore formalize this morning in a press release to acquire 50% stake in Ericsson, 10 years after the creation of the entity Sony Ericsson.
After long occupied a place on the podium in sales of mobile phones (including Nokia Sony Ericsson ...), gradually plummeted, losing progressively more and more market share, with respect to the birth of a new competition with the arrival of manufacturers such as Apple, HTC (formerly QTEK) or Samsung.
The current situation is that Sony Ericsson has lost approximately 32% market share in one year. Some strategic choices were also found not to pay, like the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play Playstation famous smartphone that has not really as successful as hoped.
With the acquisition of shares of Ericsson, the joint venture Sony Ericsson will now be placed under the sign of convergence in the different areas covered by the Japanese: PDAs, VAIO notebooks, touch pads and game consoles
This new strategy also, will also at the same time, lower production costs.
