Amazon : Kindle Model for Europe

As discussed in the full analysis of the new line of Kindle, the expansion of international service Kindle has been somewhat forgotten (for now). However, while opening the Kindle Store French (but also Spanish and Italian) is no longer any doubt, the question is now on devices that accompany the provision of content. For even if one can expect that the catalog of ebooks is a result, it may be that Amazon chooses the minimum service for the Kindle, at least initially.  Kindle entry for Amazon.co.uk and Amazon.de  To understand this, we must look at the situation across the Channel and the Rhine. In the United Kingdom market in which the Kindle Store has been around for over a year, only one model is marketed Kindle: the entry-level WiFi to 89 pounds (just over € 100). No Touch Kindle or Fire, but the Kindle 3 (in WiFi and WiFi 3 G) is the catalog. Is Amazon has allocated all its stocks in priority to the U.S. market? Most likely because the Kindle will be available on October 12 while U.S. customers can already receive it.

In Germany, a market in which Amazon has launched a few months ago, the situation is the same (available October 12, with the two older models that remain in the catalog), but gives us an idea of prices in euros, which will be performed France. The new Kindle is sold at € 99, against € 119 for the Kindle wireless Keyboard and € 159 for WiFi 3 G. At this price, the Kindle is very attractive and will benefit from the availability of content consequent Kindle Store.  However, the absence of the rest of the range of eReaders risk of disappointing many. Except for issues of stock (or cost to the 3G model), it is hard to understand why the Kindle Touch (in its WiFi) is available for purchase. Regarding the Fire Kindle, Amazon's choice is understandable, given the close link between this tablet and the catalog of digital content available on the national stores.  The arrival of the Kindle Fire in Europe conditioned by the changes in the supply of digital content from Amazon  Germany and the UK, this offer is still limited to music or books. The situation is similar in France where no offer of VOD (or digital library) is also proposed. As for the Amazon Appstore, it is not yet available from our Android smartphones. In these markets, the Amazon Prime service is embryonic. In France, it only gives access to the Express delivery with every order through a subscription of € 49 per year. Again, no offer of unlimited VOD not complete the service.

So, the Kindle Fire would have little interest in the Amazon ecosystem as it exists in Europe. This tablet is based on the availability of digital content is still limited in these territories. However, the Fire may be the product that will push Amazon to open its stores various digital, with lots of publishers and partner companies attracted to this new market. No doubt the success of this tablet in the United States will not only be observed by local editors, but well beyond. Kindle the Fire is both a real test for Amazon, but for all partners, regardless of the media, the result will determine the likely arrival of a more advanced model of Fire in 2012
