Four of the five adults in the apartment where taken to University Medical Center for treatment. Two suffered minor smoke inhalation and the others had cuts from broken glass. All were expected to be released later.

Officials say the pilot of a World War II era fighter plane that crashed into the grandstands at an air race event in Reno, Nev., was killed in the wreck, along with two other people.

Leeward owned the Leeward Air Ranch Racing Team and was a well-known racing pilot. His website says he had flown more than 120 races and served as a stunt pilot for numerous movies, including "Amelia" and "Cloud Dancer." He also was a real estate salesman.

Leeward died when the P-51 Mustang he was flying crashed into a box seat area at the front of the grandstands at the National Championship Air Races at about 4:30 p.m.
An official says there are indications that mechanical problems caused a World War II-era fighter plane to
plunge into the grandstands at a Nevada air show, killing at least three people.

Mike Houghton, president and CEO of Reno Air Races, made the remarks at a news conference hours after the crash in Reno that
sent at least 54 people to the hospital.

Killed in the crash was the pilot, 74-year-old movie stunt pilot Jimmy Leeward, and at least two others.

Houghton says it's too early to know for sure what caused the wreck, but said there appeared to be a "problem with the aircraft that caused it to go out of control."
